Some Like it HOT! Free McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce at Giant Eagle
- 0 Comments
While prepping for a mega Giant Eagle shopping trip this morning, I came across another freebie or cheapie depending on your coupon.
McIlhenny’s Tabasco Sauce is on sale for $1.33. If you picked up the booklet of coupons from the Celebrate Tailgate display at some Giant Eagles, it included a .75/1 coupon that spices up a shopping trip for FREE.
Not to fret if you didn’t pick up the booklets – there is a .50 coupon available at the McIlhenny website which I’m assuming will double which still equals a great deal at only .33. Since my printer is out of ink, maybe someone can print one out to confirm the coupon can be doubled by posting a comment to this post.
While checking out the site for a coupon (because I love you guys) I found the history behind this family owned company and just what goes into creating the sauce fascinating. I wonder if Edmund McIlhenny could have imagined
that his post civil war endeavors would have kept his family and Avery island “sauced” for five generations. One of the biggest issues in a generational business is whether or not the kids are going to keep the original vision in mind which has been the case up until now. The industry is now hinting the family is considering selling. I hope not. I love the thought of the sauce aging in those white oak barrels instead of a big mechanical vat.
Well, I intended on just telling you about a great deal, but what can I say – I’m a history buff. If you are too, you can indulge here or pick up the book McIlhenny’s Gold: How a Louisiana Family Built the Tabasco Empire.
So, I’m finally off to Giant Eagle where Heinz, Steamfresh and now Tabasco awaits. I better stop off at Walgreens and fill up my ink cartridges too before I miss out on some hot printables!
Happy Shopping & Saving!
